Essential Roof Maintenance
It’s important that you carry out regular maintenance on your roof to ensure it performs as it should and protects your home from the elements, keeping you and your family safe and secure. A roof that isn’t doing its job properly can be incredibly dangerous and very costly to repair or replace, so regular maintenance is recommended to avoid having any of these issues. Keep your roof and your home in top condition by carrying out some essential roof maintenance…
Clean Gutters
The main drainage system for a roof is your gutters, which allow rainwater to move away from your home quickly and safely, without risk of it seeping into your home and causing water damage. It’s important to keep your gutters clean and clear from any leaves or other debris so they can perform as they should. In autumn, it’s important that you clean any leaves that have fallen from the trees from your gutters to allow rainwater to flow through them properly. You could also install gutter guards to stop leaves and other materials from getting into your guttering and to avoid you having to carry out regular cleaning of these. You can check your gutters are performing properly by spraying water from a garden hose and watching how it drains away. When you clean out your gutters, you should also check that there are no holes, cracks or splits in your guttering and if you find any, we recommend having these fixed or replaced by a professional roofing company like ours. While carrying out cleaning of your gutters, we also recommend checking your soffits and fascias at the same time for any signs of wear or damage. These provide the ventilation for your attic and prevent any animals or water being able to get in.
Inspect Your Roof For Signs of Damage or Wear
Instead of waiting for water to leak into your home and cause damage, it’s a good idea to carry out regular inspections of your roof if you’re able to. This is especially important if you have an older roof which is nearing the end of its lifespan as that’s when you’re more likely to have issues. You should check for any signs of damage, such as cracked tiles, loose tiles or missing tiles and look for any signs of wear. We also recommend inspecting any chimneys your property has, as often these can be where water gets into your home.
If you can’t access your roof, we recommend inspecting the inside of your attic, as often there can be water damage there that you don’t know about. You should check for any discoloration, damp mould, mildew, stains or distortion.

"Paul came round and talked through the job of fitting 4 Velux windows. His quote followed a few days later which was competitive. The work was completed to a high standard and amazingly with very little disruption. Paul seems to know his stuff and would ask him to quote again for anything roof related."
